Telegram references Gandalf in a post about the Gram Wallet rollout

Telegram referenced Gram Wallet in a post featuring Gandalf. Neither the company nor Pavel Durov has announced a revised timeline for the wider rollout.

Telegram’s official account on X posted a scene from The Lord of the Rings showing Gandalf holding the GRAM token logo instead of the ring.

The caption adapts the character’s well-known line: “A wallet is never late, nor is it early. It arrives precisely when it means to.” Telegram replaced “wizard” with “wallet” in the quote.

Pavel Durov first announced plans to introduce Gram Wallet across all Telegram apps in July, describing it as “the largest rollout of a non-custodial crypto wallet in history.”

On 31 August, he said on his channel that Gram Wallet had become available to a limited number of users. Durov promised to gradually extend access to more than one billion users over the following few weeks. Neither he nor Telegram has announced a revised timeline since then. In crypto-related chats and channels, Durov has faced criticism over his silence and the uncertainty surrounding the rollout. This reaction likely prompted the tongue-in-cheek post on X.

The Wallet crypto wallet has long been available in Telegram’s menu, but it is developed by The Open Platform (TOP).

A standalone Gram Wallet mobile app launched in June. At the time, the developers of My Wallet, formerly known as MyTonWallet, told RBC Crypto that the app was intended to serve as an expanded version of Telegram’s forthcoming built-in wallet.

Durov himself has limited his posts to general announcements, providing neither links nor technical details.

GRAM, formerly known as Toncoin (TON), ranks 28th on CoinMarketCap, with a market capitalisation of around $4 billion. The token’s price has fallen by 20% since the wallet was first announced.
